Mrs. Ruth Ann Murphy Powell, 91, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 6 -8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. For her family and friends in New England, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born April 24, 1933 in Brighton, Massachusetts to the late William and Irene Murphy. A retired social worker, she worked for 20 years at the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts where she also served as the POW Coordinator. For many years she served on the board for the Korean War Veterans Association.
She enjoyed spending time with family, cross-stitching and Disney, especially Olaf and Simba. Other interests of Mrs. Powell were yard sales, antiquing, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Hallmark movies, football and golf.
Mrs. Powell is preceded in death by her husband, John Willis Powell and her daughter, Juanita Anne Pina.
She is survived by: sons, John David Powell of Waltham, MA, Richard Powell and wife, Suzanne, of Greenville, NC and Patrick Joseph Powell and wife, Nicole, of Shirley, MA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Farren; brothers, Paul Murphy and Edward Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hyland Blvd., Staten Island, New York 10306.
