Ruth Anders Pennock

Ruth Anders Pennock, 88, of Charlottesville, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013. She was born in Worcester Township, located near Norristown, Pennsylvania, graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Health and Human Development. She taught in High Schools in Ocean City, New Jersey, and Coatesville, Pennsylvania. She also held positions in the Agriculture Library at Penn State University, the Virginia State Library in Richmond, Virginia, and worked for the Bibliographical Society at the University of Virginia Library. Ruth received her library certification after completing courses at the University of Virginia, Bridgewater College and Longwood University. She then took the position of Librarian at the Upper Division of St. Anne's - Belfield School where she worked from 1971 until her retirement in 1987. She is a past president of Kappa Delta Sorority and was a member of Players, a theatrical organization, at Penn State. In Charlottesville, she was an active member of the American Association of University Women and the Christian Women's Club. Ruth is survived by her husband of 66 years, Caleb M Pennock Jr.; two daughters, Janet R. Pennock of Longwood, Florida, and Gay A Pennock of Charlottesville, Virginia; one granddaughter, Kimberly Pennock and one great-granddaughter.

Interment will be private.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation at 250 Pantops Mountain Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Park Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
