Ruth E. Prellberg

Ruth E. Prellberg, née Kowitz, 93, of Schaumburg, formerly of Huntley and Park Ridge, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 10, following a long illness.
Born October 31, 1932, in Chicago, to Edward and Ella Kowitz, Ruth was the loving wife of the late William J. Prellberg, a longtime Park Ridge police officer; fond stepmother of Gail Prellberg-King, of Park Ridge and beloved godmother of Barbara Vitello, of Schaumburg.
Ruth was preceded in death by her longtime companion Ray Ahrens and lifelong friend Dorothy Ahrens; beloved aunt and uncle Clarence and Edna Smith; as well as cousins and dear friends.
Independent and generous, Ruth was a "career gal" at a time when few women worked outside the home. She began her professional life as a Chicago Title and Trust bookkeeper but spent the majority of her career at Northern Trust Bank.
Ruth was a woman of faith who had a fondness for animals and conservation. She loved spending time with family and friends in Wisconsin and Arkansas and was an intrepid traveler who enjoyed traveling across the U.S. with cousins Art, Stella and Aletha as much as she enjoyed touring Europe, Scandinavia, Central America and the Caribbean.
Visitation, Tuesday, January 13, 10:30 am - 11:00 am at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 South Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL. Funeral service beginning promptly at 11:00 am and will then proceed to Town of Maine Cemetery, Park Ridge, for a graveside interment.
