Waynesville, Ruth Ferguson Presnell, 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Elizabeth House.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ida McElroy Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Presnell who died in 2010; son, Greg Presnell; four sisters, Sarah Greene, Betty Moody, Bennie Underwood, and Annette Best; three brothers, John, Charles, and Carlyle Ferguson. Ruth graduated from Blanton Business College and was employed with the Haywood County Library as a Librarian for 30 years. Following retirement, she worked at Junaluska Sanitary District. She was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the bereavement committee and was church treasurer. Ruth enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking meals, and spending time with her entire family.
Ruth is survived by a son, Andy Presnell (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Beth Presnell; four sisters, Margaret Williams, Helen Davis (Lawrence), Irene Noland (Joe), and Maxine Bradshaw (Jimmy); five grandchildren, Angela Duckett-Kuykendall (Holly), Lauren, Morgan, Danielle, and Logan Presnell (Sara); seven great-grandchildren, Luke, Eli, Peyton, Makinley Ruth, Darcy, Bryer, and Colton.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2023, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Tim Pounds officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mrs. Presnell’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601 www.act.alz.org
The care of Mrs. Presnell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
