Ruth Crawley Sands

Ruth Crawley Sands - age 89 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, February 16, 2025 at her home. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and retired from ORNL X-10 Plant after many years of service. Ruth formerly sang in a quartet at Unity Baptist Church. She loved gardening and working outdoors in her yard.
Preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sands; son-in-law, Michael Salyers; daughter-in-law, Susan Sands; parents, John R. and Hazel Smith Crawley; siblings: John Crawley Jr., Bill Crawley, Alfred Crawley, Jake Crawley, and Vernon Crawley; sisters, Marie Chadwick and Jane Darnell.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Sands Salyers; son, Chris Sands; grandsons, Travis Salyers and Christopher (Tasha) Salyers; granddaughter, Amanda (Dustin) Garner; great grandchildren: Brody, Hailey, Connor and Brennon; siblings, David Crawley (Sylvia) and Pat Grooms (Jim), along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20th at Highland Park Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Mr. Jim Grooms and Rev. Eddie Click officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. on Friday in Edgewood Cemetery in Knoxville for graveside services and interment.
