Ruth Eleanor Wright Scott was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19, 2025 at her residence in Washington, DC.

The youngest of six children, Ruth was born on July 25, 1938 in Bedford County, Virginia to the late Orville Robert Wright, Sr. and Lucy Hughes Wright. She accepted the Lord at an early age and joined Lovely Zion Baptist Church. Ruth was educated in the Bedford County, Virginia school system and graduated from Susie G. Gibson High School in 1957.

After moving to Washington, DC, she was employed by the Wonder Bread Factory for several years and later retired from the U.S. Department of Commerce after 14 years of faithful service. Her former colleagues often described her as sweet, dedicated, and classy.

Ruth was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was humble with a sassy streak. She had a quiet voice yet spoke volumes. She was petite with a flair. Inherently kindhearted. Resolute in spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her family, being outdoors, planting flowers, listening to gospel and blues music, watching Jeopardy (and answering the clues correctly), traveling, and playing her favorite games.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Orville "Brother" Robert Wright, Jr., James "Tad" Alexander Wright, and Riley Hughes Wright; and two sisters, Julia Wright Evans and Mary Regina "Margina" Wright Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Rosella Scott, Jr. of the home in Washington, DC; daughter, Tracy Lynn Scott of Woodbridge, Virginia; son, Rosella Gregory (Rebecca) Scott, III of Clinton, Maryland; bonus daughters, Tommie Scott Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada and Cheryl Scott Quarles of Charleston, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Scott Logan of Forest, Virginia and Florence Scott (Victor) Demming of Montclair, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Desmond Alexander Scott of Richmond, Virginia, Rosella Darnell (Kenitra) Scott, IV of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Robert Delvin Rosella Quarles of Charleston, South Carolina, and Courtneay Brown Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
