Ruth Myrtle Sheltman

Oakdale - Celebration of Life services for Ruth Sheltman, 92, will be held on Saturday,November 25, 2023, at 1 o'clock PM at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Pastor Danny Broussard, Bro. Charles Seal, and Joel Johnson will officiate. Ruth will be laid to rest at Pecan Grove Cemetery, Cypress Creek, immediately following her services. Ruth's family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 9 o'clock AM until time of services.
Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. Ruth loved to attend church, it was her "happy place". She enjoyed giving her preacher, Bro. Danny, a hard time.Ruth was a loving and caring person and was most happy when she could share the love she had for the Lord with others. While attending Pine Prairie High School, she played basketball where she was a Louisiana State All Star. She owned Panzica Hardware in Alexandria with her husband Melvin and after selling the business, she worked for Evangeline Bank Alexandria until she was 79 years old. Ruth was an avid sports fan and loved University of Oklahoma football. She had a passion for caring for her family members and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Ruth was "Grammy" to all who knew her. Her smile and tender heart will be forever missed by all, and she will remain unconditionally loved always.
Those left to cherish Ruth's memory include one son, Ronald Sheltman and wife Pam of Yukon, OK; one daughter, Deborah Gourdon and husband Farron of Oakdale, LA; one brother, Robert Johnson and wife Shirley of Sieper, LA; six grandchildren, Susan Kimery and husband Jake, Matt Sheltman and wife Marisa, Les Sheltman and wife Stephanie, Heather (Gourdon) Powell and husband Kevin, Jeremy Gourdon and wife Nikki, and Shelby (Mizlo) Thorsen and Chris Klaczko; thirteen great grandchildren, Nelin Kimery, Aidan Sheltman, Hadlea Sheltman, Paxton Sheltman, Ava Sheltman, Coy Powell, Colby Gourdon, Caleb Gourdon, Casen Gourdon, and Corey Gourdon, Colton Thorsen, Brooklyn Thorsen, and Austin Thorsen; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lydia Johnson; her husband, Melvin Sheltman; one daughter, Brenda Renee Mizlo; three brothers, Otis, L.B., and A.K. Johnson; four sisters, Lola Marie Johnson, Myrtis Fontenot, Loyde Johnson, and Trudy Easley.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Matt Sheltman, Les Sheltman, Jeremy Gourdon, Jake Kimery, Coy Powell, and Colton Thorsen.
Honorary pallbearers to serve are Kevin Powell, Nelin Kimery, Paxton Sheltman, Aidan Sheltman, Colby Gourdon, and Caleb Gourdon, and Austin Thorsen.
Ruth's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.
