Rose-Neath Funeral Home - Bossier CityRuth Eleta Robichaux Shipp, lovingly known as “Rockin Ruth,” of Bossier City, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on August 18, 1929, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Paul Xavier Robichaux and Ruth Anna Eleta Robichaux, Ruth’s life was a true testament to her faith, her love of family and friends, and remarkable musical talents.
In 1950, Ruth married her loving husband, Kenneth O. Shipp, Sr., in the BSU at LSU in Baton Rouge. They shared 64 wonderful years filled with devotion, laughter, and a steadfast partnership.
Ruth earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in voice and piano from LSU in Baton Rouge and went on to receive her master’s in music education from Louisiana Tech University. For more than 80 years, she joyfully shared her musical gifts, which were teaching piano, playing organ and piano for worship, and directing the Young at Heart Choir at Airline Baptist Church, her spiritual home.
A warrior for Christ, Ruth’s boundless energy, humor and kindness touched all who knew her. She adored her family, treasured her many travels with the church, and remained a passionate LSU fan.
A private family burial was held at Centuries Memorial in Shreveport, Louisiana. Honoring Ruth as pallbearers were Kenneth Shipp, Jr., Barry Shipp, Kenny Shipp, Lance Spivey, Nicky Tooke, and Skip Blanchard.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Brother Harrell Shelton.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; her husband’s siblings, and many other friends and family.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Ken) O. Shipp, Jr., and wife, Celeste; Barry Steven Shipp, and wife Judy; daughter, Kathryn (Kathy) Eleta Shipp; four grandchildren, Lexie Spivey, and husband, Lance, Miranda Rock, and husband, Chris, Kenneth O. Shipp III, and wife, Kelly, and Amanda Smith, and husband, Jon. She will be missed by her 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as her church family and many friends.
We find comfort in knowing she is celebrating with her departed loved ones in Heaven praising Jesus!
We take peace in imagining her joyfully praising Jesus with the same spirit and song she shared with us throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any gifts be sent to Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana, or these two charitable organizations that were near and dear to her heart: The Alzheimer’s Association, www.donorservices.alz.org, or the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation, www.loeysdietz.org.
