Ruth B. Spess, 85, of Exeter, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in West Wyoming, daughter of the late Howard and Rena Mae (Eyet) Posten. She was educated in West Wyoming schools.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed attending church and cheering for the Steelers.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Spess; children, Frank and James Spess; and siblings, Howard Posten, Elmer Posten, Gladys Jones, Shirley Dezinski, Beverly Haas, Althea Brockway, Edith Jackson, and Eleanor Posten.
Ruth is survived by her children, Rita Schaffer of Exeter; Andrew Spess of Nanticoke; Barbara (Bob) Jones of Exeter; Michael Spess of Pittston; Teresa (Tim) Fender of Plymouth; Janice Margavage of Wyoming; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. D'Andrea and the staff for their kindness and compassion caring for our mom.
The funeral service for Ruth will be held at noon Friday from Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Carol Coleman of the Wyoming United Methodist Church officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. to service time.
Interment will follow in Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming.
