Obituary of Dorothy J. Spess
Dorothy J. Spess of Saginaw passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Wellspring Assisted Living on Shattuck Road, age 99 yrs. Dorothy was born on October 24, 1924 to the late Keith and Olive Shaffner. She married Floyd E. Jones March 6, 1943. He predeceased her on November 17, 1986. She later married Steve Spess on May 10, 2003. He predeceased her on November 5, 2010.
Surviving are her two children: Janice (Kenneth) Knoll of Boise, Idaho and Duane (Janis) Jones of St. Augustine, Florida; three grandchildren: Rebecca (David) Balli, Melissa (Jon) Threlkeld and Aaron (Michele) Jones; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Schaub.
Also surviving are Steve's family; Ronald (Christy) Spess of Saginaw; Linda (Gary) Marx of East Lansing and Laura (DeWaine) Jackson of Roseburg, Oregon.
Dorothy worked at JCPenney for a number of years in Ocala, Florida. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, knitting, needlework, reading, and was an active member of the State Street United Methodist Church.
Per Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will take place with her family. Dorothy's family would like to thank the Wellspring staff for their excellent care and support over the past seven years. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Wellspring Lutheran Services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd.
