Ruth Conway Stevens was called to eternal rest on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 90. She was a native of Gretna, LA (McDonogville Community) and a resident of Marrero, LA for the past 60 years with the same landline telephone number. Ruth retired after 35 years as a Custodian from Jefferson Parish School Board, with most of her years spent at John Ehret High School in Marrero. She was proud of her work at Ehret, and she would boast that it was the cleanest school in Jefferson Parish. She was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church, her pastor, and her members. Ruth was affectionately known to some of her family as “Ruthie” and others as “Boo Boo”. She was a hard-working woman, and along with her husband Steve, their priority was taking care of their nine children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Their motto was, “you can always come home”. Devoted wife of the late Joseph Stevens, Jr. Beloved mother of Judy Williams (Glenn) Ellis, Polly Stevens (Ronald) Rosemond, Marc (Deborah) Stevens, David Stevens, Djuna (Bryan) Stevens, Gordon Stevens, and the late Earl Williams III, Gerald Stevens, Sr., and Joseph Stevens. Grandmother of the late Earl Williams IV and Reginald Price. Great grandmother of the late Brittany R. Williams. Daughter of the late George Conway and Flossie Gales, who passed when she was only two years old. Granddaughter of the late James and Polly Godfrey, who raised her. Sister of the late Shirley Bailey. Also left to cherish her memories are 26 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of St. James Missionary Baptist Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church 1738 L. B. Landry Ave. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above named church.
