Ruth Virginia Winget Quayle died July 6, 2025, in Draper, Utah. Virginia was born in Monroe, Utah, on January 11, 1927. She is the daughter of Elmer and Florence Susanna (Wilson) Winget. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, DeVere, Lorna, and Keith Winget; June Winget Roberts; her beloved husband, Calvin King Quayle; and her grandchild, Aaron Price. She has three children: Susanne (married to Dan Price), Pamela (married to Keith Warren), and Gordon (married to Shelly Bennett), 14 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
Virginia valued education deeply throughout her life. She acquired her formal education at BAC in Cedar City, Utah, and at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, as well as a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She worked as a secretary in a residence hall in Madison, Wisconsin, and as an admission clerk at the LDS hospital in Logan, Utah. She taught English to both junior and high school students. She also taught communication at District One Technical College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for 20 years.
Even after retirement, she continued to do workshops in business and industry. She retired in 1986 when she and her husband went on a mission to Melbourne, Australia, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served extensively in the church, having many callings, including president of the Young Women and Relief Society. She and her husband also worked at the Saint Paul, Minnesota Temple in Oakdale. She was active in the University Women's and Republican Women's organizations. She was frequently involved and even organized various sewing and reading groups.
Virginia was a woman of many talents and a true lover of creativity. She was not one to shy away from a challenge, and her youthful spirit led her to take piano, violin, and dance lessons. Her love for creativity knew no bounds. She crocheted hats and purses, knitted sweaters, sewed fabric dolls and doll clothes, painted wooden crafts, and her passion became making quilts for her family and friends. She loved dipping chocolates and sharing with family and friends. Her joy in these activities was palpable and brought happiness to those around her.
Virginia's life was a testament to her adventurous spirit. She embraced challenges and sought new experiences with a zest that was truly inspiring. Her love for travel took her to nine different countries across Europe in a VW camper, and later, she explored several South American and Central American countries, as well as Canada, Russia, Peru, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, and Antarctica. She achieved her dream of visiting all seven continents, a feat that reflects her fearless and adventurous nature.
Virginia's life was filled with meaning and work. Her enthusiasm and energy drew people to her. She always gathered friends wherever she went. Her family was touched by her life and always felt her love. For that, we will always be grateful.
