Mrs. Ruth Helen Woods, affectionately known as "Nanny" to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Andrews, Texas, at the age of 85. Born on February 2, 1940, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Ruth was a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her.
Ruth was a proud graduate of Miller Creek High School in Oklahoma. It was her love for bluegrass and country music that would lead her to the love of her life, Jeff Junior Woods. Ruth and Jeff were united in marriage on February 25, 1956, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and together they danced through life, side by side, until his passing.
In her professional life, Mrs. Woods was known for her dedicated work in retail management, having worked at Superette for Mr. Ray Porter and Kent Quick for numerous years. In her later years, she brought her warmth and kindness to the Andrews Independent School District, where she worked in the cafeteria at San Andres Elementary alongside Mrs. Ramona Benson.
Ruth's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted Christian, she was an attendee of the House of Mercy Church in Andrews. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life, always putting others before herself and embodying the spirit of Christian charity.
An exceptional cook, Ruth delighted in preparing meals for family member who walked through her doors. Her biscuits and gravy and fried chicken were family favorites that will be dearly missed. Ruth's crocheting talent was generously shared through the many creations she gifted to friends and family.
Ruth's legacy is carried on by her loving sons, William Woods and wife Paige of Lubbock, Texas, Clayton Woods of Andrews, Texas, and David "Doodle" Woods and wife Viola of Andrews, Texas. She was a cherished grandmother to Tyler and his wife Cami Gentry of Lubbock, Texas, Chelsey and her partner Kyle Treadwell of Midland, Texas, Clayton Chance and his wife Brandi Woods of Midland, Texas, Monica and her husband Steven Lopez of Andrews, Texas, Cassandra and her husband Ric Baez of Hamlin, Texas, and Whitlee and her husband Carson Greathouse of Amarillo, Texas. Ruth's joy was multiplied by her great-grandchildren: Brexli, Ariella, Andrea, Mateo, Guillermo, Zaymian, Zayah, Ryder, Raycee, Coah, Koby, and Madi.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jeff Junior Woods, her parents, Pete Woodrow Tisdell and Lois Oweeta Miller Tisdell, her brothers, Clifford Tisdell, James D. Tisdell, and Tommy Dean Tisdell, and her sisters, June Bloom, Kay Hamilton, and Joan Wagnon.
Ruth will be remembered not only for her unwavering love for her family but also for her kindness, her resilience, and her ability to bring warmth and comfort to those around her. Her presence was a gift to us all, and her memory will be treasured by us other loving family members who were blessed to know her.
Mrs. Ruth Helen Woods lived a full life, rich with love, faith, and service, touching countless lives with her generosity and spirit. As we bid farewell to our beloved "Nanny," we celebrate the legacy of a matriarch whose influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
