Ryan Michael Landvik was born on April 10, 1993, in Grand Forks, ND.
Ryan was raised by his parents, Tracy and Michael Coats, and his Grandmother, Ruthie Schneibel. He is the older brother to Brianna, Mikie, Saje, Emmalie, and DJ.
Ryan attended school in East Grand Forks, MN, and graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks in 2011.
Ryan wrestled and played football for a few years.
In the summer of 2009, Ryan met the love of his life, Shay. Shay and Ryan went to school together and did everything together.
Ryan and Shay welcomed their first child on December 19, 2011. Jacob Michael was the light of Ryan and Shay's life. In the fall of 2015, Ryan and Shay were given the devastating news that their baby girl was not going to survive long after birth due to a horrible congenital disability called Anencephaly. Skylar Marie was born on Jan 6th, 2016. Ryan and Shay held and loved Skylar until her passing.
Ryan married Shay in August 2016. He said it was one of the happiest days of his life.
Ryan and Shay welcomed their daughter Hannah Ruth on April 22, 2020. As soon as she held Ryan's finger, he was wrapped. She was his baby girl, and he was so in love again. Hannah was very spoiled by her daddy.
A few months later, Ryan and Shay were excited and shocked to announce that they would have another baby. This time, Brandon Lee "Little B-Man", arrived on April 6, 2021.
Ryan loved being a dad! He was so proud of all his kiddos. He would call his mother on Facetime daily to show her what the kids were up to! He shared it all with his mom, whether it was good or bad.
Ryan and his family were very close to each other. He loved going to his parents for dinner whenever possible. He would request his mom's sloppy joes or cheeseburger soup.
Ryan worked for many places, but he liked his job at Henningson. Ryan worked with many friends and always had a knack for making strangers into friends.
Ryan loved to go fishing. He developed this love from his grandfather, Dennis. He would also spend hours on the dock at Island Lake with Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Harold. He also loved grilling and throwing "get togethers" in his free time.
Ryan has an extraordinary bond with his cousins Luke, Shane, and Dylan; they are all like brothers. He grew up with them all, and they got into enough trouble together.
On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Ryan did not look right. He went to the ER after consulting EVFD medic Cordilayne Meyer; that was when he found out that he had Leukemia. After the shock to his wife, Ryan started his chemo and medication. He went into remission twice and seemed to be doing good. But in November and December, he started not doing so well. On December 27, Shay received that call that no wife ever wants to get, and she proceeded to relay that same info to his mother, which no daughter-in-law ever wanted to make.
Shay, Tracy, and close friend Cordilayne went to the hospital just in time to say their goodbyes. Many calls were made in that room to family members and friends. Ryan's dad, little sister, little brother, and aunt were up there to see him and say goodbye to him. Ryan fought a damn good fight, but, in the end, he was just too tired to fight anymore. He felt the call from his grandmother to go to heaven and be with Skylar. He knew Shay would be a firm mom to Jacob, Hannah, and Brandon. Ryan knew Shay and their wonderful kids would be taken well care of by friends and family around every day. And knew they will be loved by all.
Ryan is proceeded in death by his daughter Skylar, Grandma Ruth Schneibel, and Grandfathers Dennis Schneibel, Norman Landvik, Harold Fischer, and David Coats. His Uncles Billy, Norman Jr, and Mark. Great-grandparents are on both sides of the family.
Ryan is survived by his Wife, Shay, sons, Jacob and Brandon, and his daughter Hannah. His Mother, Tracy, and Father, Michael. Sisters; Brianna, Saje, and Emmalie. Brothers; Mikie and DJ. His Grandmother's, Jean, and Betty. Aunts; Cherie, Norma, Tricia and Deanna. Uncles; Kurt, Bruce, David, and Jason.
Ryan is also missed by so many friends and family. Not forgetting his fur buddies; Teddy, Zues, and Nova.
Celebration of Life: on Saturday June 29, 2024, at Riverside Park in Grand Forks ND Starting at 1:00 pm.
