S.D. Scudder, 96, formerly of Elnora, IN passed away peacefully at Parkview Village in Odon IN at 5:10 am on December 16, 2024. S.D. was born on October 14, 1928, in Switzerland County, IN the son of Rev. Howard and Bessie (Romans) Scudder. He married Frieda Marie Bline on February 28, 1953 and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2002.
S.D. was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Plainvillle. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and worked for Rock Island Refinery and Marathon Oil as a truck driver and eventually as a gauger.
You could find him on his way to local coffee shops every morning at 6:30 am and was known for wearing snap shirts, jeans, cowboy boots and a hat. He was also proud of the fact that he owned a 1967 mustang. S.D. enjoyed word searches and fishing, had a great work ethic, was determined and supportive and always set a good example for his family. Most importantly though, he loved his family and hanging out with his son Doug on his days off and cherished the times when he was able to watch all of his grandchildren's sporting activities.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandy Engstrom and her husband Dave of Monroe City, IN, Ellen Jones and her husband Brad of Shelby, NC; daughter-in-law, Glenda Scudder of Plainville; brother, Virgil Scudder and his wife Susan of Miami Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Amber Earle and her husband Henry, John Jones and his wife Candy, Annalie Brooks, Hannah Brame and her husband Joel, Stuart Scudder, Cameron Engstrom and his wife Molly, Morgan Flynn and her husband Dylan; eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. S.D. is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frieda Scudder, sister, Rebecca Wetzel and his son Douglas Scudder.
Friends may visit with S.D.'s family from 4-8 pm on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State Street, Washington, IN 47501. S.D.'s funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home with Pastors Alfred Helms and Jason Shemanski officiating. S.D. will be laid to rest next to his wife in Fairview Cemetery in Elnora, IN. The Scudder family has requested memorial contributions be made to Parkview Village, 800 S. West St., Odon, IN 47562.
