S.J. Sahakian, born in the Armenian Orthodox enclave of Baghdad, Iraq, on 5/4/1938, passed away on 6/30/2024. He was 86 years old.
S.J.'s journey took him from the vibrant streets of Baghdad to the charming cities of Germany, where he met and married his first love, Ursula Blatter. In 1966, they relocated to beautiful Potomac, MD, where they raised their beloved son, John. S.J. enjoyed a fulfilling 30-year career in the Washington, D.C. area working for Sears ascending through the ranks with his renowned work ethic and passion for sales.
The twists and turns of life brought S.J. to Florida upon retirement, where he met and later married his second love, R.J. Whitfield. They relocated to Knoxville, TN, and cherished over 20 years together. True to his indomitable spirit and work ethic, S.J. started a whole new post-retirement career in Knoxville, working with Friedman's Appliances for more than 15 years.
S.J. leaves behind his cherished son, John, as well as his beloved dog and cat. His legacy of relationship-building was evident in all facets of his life. Whether a customer, a colleague, or a local restaurant, S.J. had a remarkable ability to connect and make everyone feel like family.
A devoted sports fan, S.J. embraced the thrill of soccer from his early days and carried that enthusiasm through his life. Since coming to the U.S., he became a dedicated Washington Redskins supporter. His passion for sports remained strong as he adapted to his new surroundings in Tennessee, proudly cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers.
S.J. Sahakian's warm spirit, relentless optimism, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will always be remembered as a man who knew how to make everyone feel at home.
A celebration of his life will be held on 8/11/24 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Fox Den Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young-Williams Animal Center in his honor.
