Sadie O'Neal

Sadie Mae Mayo O'Neal, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 28, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on October 13, 1931, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, and spent her childhood in Sledge, Mississippi, before settling in Tunica, Mississippi, where she lived most of her life.
Sadie was a woman of many talents and passions. She dedicated herself to raising her two children, Steve O'Neal and Sherry O'Neal Bergelt. Alongside her role as a devoted mother, Sadie ran a beloved burger and shake restaurant, where she served the best burgers and shakes around. Her flavorful creations became a local favorite, and she brought joy to many with her delicious, mouthwatering meals.
Beyond her dedication to her restaurant, Sadie found pleasure in sewing, crafting, and exploring new places. She had a wanderlust spirit and cherished her travel experiences. Yet, her heart was always with her family, and she treasured the moments spent together during family gatherings.
Sadie is survived by her children: son Steve Lamar O'Neal (Gail) of Tunica and daughter Sherry Lynn Bergelt (Paul) of Florence, Kentucky. She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Shirley Westbrook of Southaven, Mississippi, and Sandra Tyler of Crenshaw, Mississippi, as well as her brother Henry Mayo of Marks, Mississippi. Sadie also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jamie Carpenter, Jason Arnett, Justin Arnett, and Trey Bergelt, and her adored great-grandchildren: Austin Arnett, Jaiden Arnett, Olivia Arnett, Sadie Bergelt, and River Arnett.
Sadie was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Jack" Dudley O'Neal, and her parents, Guy Henry and Cora Mae Fair Mayo. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Mayo Prince and Edna Mayo Chincarin, and her brothers Bobby Mayo and Terry Mayo.
A visitation to honor Sadie's life will take place on June 10, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Tunica, Mississippi. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the same location. Sadie will be laid to rest in a burial service at Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica, Mississippi.
Sadie Mae Mayo O'Neal will forever be remembered for her warmth, love, and the lasting impact she made on her family, community, and all those who enjoyed the mouthwatering burgers and shakes at her restaurant. Her memory will be cherished by all those whose lives she touched.
