Obituary of Sally Browne
Sally Weiler Browne
Aged 75, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, died on May 30th, 2025 after a long battle with a rare lung disease. Sally was born in South Bend, IN to Margaret (Bilby) and George Weiler. She is survived by her sister Nancy Wilson, husband Timothy Allen Browne, son Joshua Weiler Browne and his life partner Jordan Larson, daughter Kate Weiler Browne and her life partner Wendy Brotherton and granddaughter Aurora Weiler Browne.
From the very beginning, Sally was musically inclined: at John Adams High School, South Bend, IN (class of 1968) she was the lead female actor in many musicals and plays, was the first chair violist in several symphony orchestras including: Hastings, NE, Huron, SD, and St. Paul, MN East Metro Symphony Orchestras. Sally earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Her working life took her to Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Orlando, FL, Grand Island, NE, Huron, SD and lastly Stillwater, MN. Sally and her husband loved to travel visiting, Canada, Greece, Italy, Japan, France, Switzerland, Norway, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungry, Russia and Türkiye. When airline travel was no longer an option, Sally and her husband traveled the US in their 45 foot motor home for the past eight years, visiting almost all the lower 48 states. Sally loved all her many dogs, especially Toby.
Sally and Tim's sister Sue were best friends in High School and College and both living in Chicago. Tim moved to Chicago in January of 1979 after serving in the Army to apprentice as a machinist. Sue was invited to Sally's flat for dinner to make homemade pasta. Grudgingly Tim accepted an invitation to join Sue and Sally. Tim and Sally fell in love immediately and after a pre honeymoon trip to Greece were married on June 19, 1981.
Sally was an avid charitable giver to Goodwill, Women For Women International, American Cancer Society, Humane Society, Valley Outreach, ASPCA and MPR. But most of all Sally loved volunteering her time for the Minnesota State Services for the Blind where for the last 22 years she recorded National Geographic articles, books and even did a stint live reading the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Celebration of Life details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally's memory can be made to any of the afore mentioned charitable organizations or an organization of your choice.
