Sally Irene Gornik

Sally Irene Gornik, daughter of Leroy and Laura Chadderdon, was born on July 5, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, and passed enfolded into God's love on June 21, 2024 at her home in Ruxton, Maryland. Following graduation from Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio, Sally attended and graduated from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing. In 1957 she and Raymond Frank Gornik (1928-2001) were married, and they moved to Baltimore where they made a lifelong home together, raising a family. Christian faith was central to Sally's life, and she was an active member and part of community life at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, Valley Presbyterian Church, and Central Presbyterian Church. Later in life, Sally achieved her Bachelor of Arts degree (Summa Cum Laude) at The University of Baltimore, and then went on to earn a Master of Science degree at Loyola University in Maryland. A mentor and friend to many, after retiring from her position as a college counselor at Essex Community College, she formed a career counseling ministry. Sally loved to travel, attend the opera, and read and listen to the Scriptures. An avid hiker, she was at home on the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail, and especially enjoyed return visits to Shenandoah National Park with her daughters, Karen and Susan.
Sally Gornik was devoted to her family and is survived by her brother Robert (Bob) Chadderdon and his wife Marsha, son Mark Gornik of New York, daughters, Susan Massey of Ohio and Maine and Karen Hess of Baltimore, daughter-in-law Rita Aszalos, sons-in-law, Thomas Massey and Bo Hess, five grandchildren, Pip Massey, Peter Gornik, Henry Massey, Daniel Gornik, Winston Massey, and nephew Neil Chadderdon and niece Beth Taylor and her family. Sally lived her life fully, a life she saw as blessed by God in order that she might be a blessing to others.
A funeral service will be held on July 11, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 232 St. Thomas Lane, Owings Mills, MD, 21117. The church is requesting those attending the funeral to please park on the gravel lot adjacent to the church due to Childrens Day Camp activities going on. Interment to follow at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Sally Gornik's honor to City Seminary of New York (cityseminaryny.org) P.O.
