Margaret Rose Farley was born in Flushing, NY to John and Margaret Ryan Farley on June 24, 1937. She attended St. Michael's Elementary School, Flushing, NY and St. Jean Baptiste High School, New York City, Class of 1955. Margaret continued her education in the Congregation de Notre Dame, in Education and Pastoral Studies, earning a BS at Fordham University, NY, and MS degrees at the University of Dayton and Loyola University, Chicago, IL.
Sister Margaret "wore many hats" as a teacher, a reading specialist, and elementary school principal in her earlier years in CT, VT, NY and IL, followed by 44 years with the Archdiocese of Chicago, IL, from 1975 through 2019, in the Office of Catholic Schools. Margaret served in various capacities in this the largest Catholic School System in the nation. While Director of School Personnel, Sr. Margaret assisted 86,000 students and 256 schools. She served the Archdiocese during the tenure of seven Superintendents of Schools and three Cardinals. Upon Sr. Margaret's retirement, one co-worker acknowledged Margaret's strong legacy of leadership and guidance as a source of insight and sincere Christian Leadership – true servant leadership.
Sr. Margaret's commitment to her ministry equally matched her commitment to family. Stories abound of her memorable family visits and thoughtful connections with the many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The mutual love and support among the Farleys was a treasure for Sr. Margaret. Her brother, Donal Farley with Dympna Bowles Farley of Brooklyn, NY, and the four sons and grandchildren survive Margaret.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret, her sister, Mary Farley Molloy, and nephew Kevin Farley.
Donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the Congregation de Notre Dame/Sacred Heart University, 3135 Easton Turnpike, Fairfield CT 06825. The CND also extend their gratitude to Mozaic Senior Living, Sage Solutions, and Assisted Living Home Care Services all of whom attended Sr. Margaret's care.
