Brother Patrick Sean Moffett, CFC (1941-2025), a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers - the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America Province - passed away quietly and peacefully at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY on August 4, 2025 after a valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick Sean Moffett was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rita Moffett, and his brother William. He is survived by his sisters Rita Greenberg and her husband Morris and Margaret Boyd and her husband Bernie. He is also survived by his niece, Colleen Boyd Torpie and nephew Michael Boyd and his grand nieces and nephews Jane, Kiera, Andrew, Liam and Gavin. Patrick to his family, Sean to his religious brothers, was a dedicated and faithful Christian Brother who touched the lives of many, many people during his long and distinguished life of service in the name of Blessed Edmund Rice. Brother was born in New York City and was deeply proud of his New York roots. The family moved to Bergen County, New Jersey where Patrick attended St. Joseph's Elementary and Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey. Upon entering the Congregation he travelled to Lakewood, New Jersey for postulancy and then West Park, NY for novitiate. After novitiate he went to Iona College where he earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics. This was the beginning of a lifelong dedication to study; during his career Brother Sean earned a M.A. in Mathematics from Loyola University, Chicago, IL; and both an M.A. and a PhD in Psychology from the New School- Social Research, NY, NY. These final degrees led to NYS License as a phycologist in 1975 and a Certificate of Professional Qulaifiaction for the USA in 2002. Brother Sean shared his gifts and talents as an educator in various schools throughout the province: Chicago,
New Rochelle, New York City and Miami. He was very active in helping to form young brothers during his time as superior of the Edmund Rice Hall, the house of studies for young brothers. He served in Rome in the Citta Dei Ragazzi Ministry from 1985-2000 where from 1998-2000 her served as Opera Nazionale per le Citta del Ragazzi-Presidente. Brother was President of Boys Town of Italy, Inc from 1990-2000 these were some of the happiest days of Sean's. He brought stability, hope and love to many who were abandoned, lost and afraid,. Brother Sean was deeply committed to living a life dedicated to the ideals of Blessed Edmund Rice. He was elected to several Congregation Chapters where he shared his love for the Congregation. He served as a member of the Board of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men. He was active in the Religious Formation Conference. Sean's deep love of his brothers and of his vocation reached an apex when he was asked to serve on the Province Leadership Team of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America Province. A position he worked tirelessly at from 2014 until he resigned due to ill health on June 1, 2025. Sean will be greatly missed by his family both familial and religious. New Rochelle, NY under the leadership of Brother Jim Moffett, Brother Greg McNally, head nurse Doreen Nixon and all the aides and care givers at St. Joe's. The care, love and support shown by the wonderful staff at Calvary Hospital, the Bronx is without words; we are all so grateful.
