Sally Wills Smith was born in
Somers Point, New Jersey on February 18, 1945, to Charles and Charlotte Wills. Sally was born a few minutes before her twin brother Larry.
She also had two older siblings, her brother Fred and her sister Emily. Sally's father was a WWII veteran and purple heart recipient. He was a chaplain and retired from the Air Force as a full bird Colonel.
As a military brat, Sally moved around the world with her family. She lived in Italy, Japan, all the southern states in the US and Hawaii, among other places. While living in Hawaii, Sally met her future husband, Jim Smith, in church youth group. When Jim moved away to attend college at the University of Colorado, Sally followed him there where she studied education. On June 17, 1966, Jim and Sally got married. In 1967, they both graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Sally was a teacher in Jacksonville, Illinois for several years before she and Jim moved to Washington State where they opened a pharmacy in Shelton. Initially, Jim and Sally struggled to have children. Sally was told by her doctors that she may not be able to have kids. They prayed and continued to try and eventually, Sally and Jim welcomed their first child, Keely, and then 19 months later, Keri was born. While Keely and Keri were infants and shortly after Jim and Sally had opened the pharmacy, Sally became paralyzed from Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Jim and Sally's faith carried them through this time. Sally recovered, and a little over four years after Keri was born, Jim and Sally welcomed their third child, Kyle, to the family.
Sally was a dedicated mother to her children, and she enjoyed working alongside Jim at the Pharmacy. Sally became the bookkeeper and general PR person at the pharmacy. She did all the daily banking and all the taxes but mostly she enjoyed waiting on and helping customers. Sally and Jim enjoyed being a part of their community.
Jim and Sally sold The Medicine Shoppe in 2008 after 33 years of owning and operating the store. They then settled into their retirement home on Mason Lake where Sally and Jim shared many wonderful years of retired life, traveling all over the world. Sally beat breast cancer twice, and no matter what challenges she faced, she relied on her unwavering faith in God and always seemed to keep a positive attitude. Throughout her life, Sally loved to sing, often singing in the choir in church and sometimes doing solo performances.
She always had a hug to give and a prayer for those in need. When Jim got sick earlier this year, Sally was strong throughout his time in the hospital and when he came home, where she took care of him until he passed one month before their 59th wedding anniversary. Around the same time, her sister Emily passed away, and her brother Fred had a stroke, but she somehow kept good spirits and was there as a source of love and support for her family. She stayed strong and kept good spirits up until early November, when an infection caused confusion and sent her to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite treatment and care, Sally did not recover. On December 8, 2025,
Sally passed away, survived by her twin brother Larry and her older brother Fred, her three children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She spent her life as a dedicated wife, inseparable from Jim, and now they are back together to spend Christmas and New Years together. Reunited for eternity. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Love INC or the Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund and help support the Shelton community that meant so much to both Sally and Jim.
