Salome M. Mera

It is with great sadness that the family of Salome Mera (Salgado) announces her passing after a brief illness. Salome passed away surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 91, on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at home in Hazlet, New Jersey. She was born on July 11, 1933 in Orense, Spain, emigrated to the United States and settled in New Jersey in 1966.
Salome worked at the Charles Bessler and Revlon factories before taking on management of Serrani's new bakery, in "down neck" Newark. Her favorite was her time at the Revlon factory, in Irvington. She was a very conscientious worker, but her lifelong passion was taking care of her family, her home and gardens, and anyone that came into her home. Nobody ever left hungry from Salome's home. After her retirement, she loved spending time with family and friends, enjoyed her trips to Spain each summer and to the Caribbean in the winter, where she thoroughly enjoyed the company of her lifelong friends, just as much as they enjoyed her company.
Salome was predeceased by her beloved husband Manuel (2018), her parents, Narciso and Ana (Alvarez) Salgado, and her brothers Delfino and wife Ana, Narciso and wife Maria, Manuel, Jose and Camilo and wife Marina, and cherished son-in law Jose Vilacha. She is survived by her loving children, Manny Mera and his wife Karen, Ana Vilacha, Jose Mera and his wife Becky, and Narciso Mera and his wife Marianne, and her 8 cherished grandchildren, Michael and his wife Amy, Daniel and his wife Jay-nel, Lisa and her husband Alex, Andrew, Natalie and her husband Tyler, Paul, Monica and her husband Michael, and Drew and his wife Alyssa. Salome is also survived by her two step-grandchildren, Patrick and wife Madison and Elizabeth, her adored 9 great grandchildren, Owen, Madison, Ethan, Olivia, Samuel, Duke, Noah, Kaylani and Viviana and her step-great grandson Hudson, and her sister-in- laws Maria and Ana, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Salome will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.
