Salvador Ayala, affectionately known as 'Sal,' passed away on February 5, 2025, in Simi Valley, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 20, 1930, in San Francisco and enjoyed a fulfilling life marked by dedication to his career, unwavering commitment to his family, and a generous spirit that endeared him to many in his community.
A proud graduate of UCLA, Salvador earned a degree in accounting, which laid the foundation for a successful career in the aerospace industry. His professional journey included significant contributions to the field, including his involvement with the first rocket to go into space. Salvador later served the nation at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, where he worked as a civilian employee for 12 years before retiring.
Salvador's dedication to service extended beyond his professional life; he was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War, serving his country with honor and bravery. Upon his return, he met his beloved wife, Norma. They married five months later and recently celebrated an incredible 71 years together.
As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Salvador cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Ayala, and their five children: Carolina Ayala, Margie Holman and her husband, Mike Holman; Carmen Holmes and her husband, John Holmes; Frank Ayala and his wife, Kathy Ayala; and James Ayala and his partner, Sue Lynch. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
In his community, Salvador was well-known for his role as Santa Claus, bringing joy to children and adults alike in Simi Valley for many years. His warm and giving nature kept him busy helping friends and relatives, ensuring they always had support when needed. He envisioned his hobbies as a means to connect, particularly working on his cherished collection of antique cars, which provided him both joy and a creative outlet during his retirement.
Salvador was also a dedicated member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the American Legion, committing his time to serve with the color guard during funerals, picnics, and parades. His involvement included assisting fellow veterans and supporting community efforts that uplifted those in need.
His passing creates a significant void in the lives of family, friends, and the community he served so selflessly. As we reflect on his life, we remember Salvador Ayala as a man of integrity, love, and laughter, whose memory will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Dad; your legacy lives on in our hearts.
