Wow! Just found out today of Sal's passing. To his family i am so sorry for your loss. Where do i start? In 1978 i moved to Nashville and worked at Manns Shoes in Hickory Hollow Mall. I met Sal at Picnic Pizza, he was the first person to teach me about pizza pie. Got to know him, he always looked out for us young guys back then, if we were short on money he could always tell and would give a couple peices of pizza to get us thru. I was a fledging DJ in the discos around the South East. I wound up working as the DJ for Sal at Sal's place off of I24. Fun times. Sal was a good boss, he was fair. At one time we had the best club in Nashville, when i dj'ed there Steve Jarrel and Sons of the Beach was the band. We both rocked the place. I got to see Sal about 6 years ago at his restaurant on Stewarts Ferry Pike, it was good to see him again and he was glad to see me. I will never forget him, feels like i lost a part of my early adult hood. Sal, i will never forget you, thank you for everything you did for me when i was a green wet behind the ears kid. rest in peace my friend, Pizza will never be the same.

Mrs. OLIVERI, ROSA and family. I only just read about Sal's passing. I feel deep sorrow. I loved Sal like my own father, he was a father to me. Rosa, I know the last time we spoke in LasVegas, I missed your father then and have all these years.
There was only one Sal, and I will always remember everything he had ever done for me.
Rosa, you and your family will always be in my heart.
Sincerely, Greg and Dana

Where do I find the words? Sal was many things to me as he was to so many others. To me, Sal was not just a friend but also a father and a mentor. Sal was a storyteller, second to none. A useful message embedded if you listen closely. Never has there been a dinner table more welcoming or a home more open to friends. The doors open, knock only if it suits you. Sal loved his family which extended far beyond his blood and his family loved him. We will miss you beyond descriptors.

Sal, thank you for teaching me that cooking is an art and especially Italian. Your family recipes have proven to be favorites everywhere. I will miss you making me espresso and talking about times in Sicily and New York. You have so much to be proud of and you have left such an amazing legacy. You have led your wife and kids in the direction every new husband and dad strive for. You are forever to be admired and respected.

Sal was a best friend of my dad Joe Savage. My brother and I knew Sal from a very young age. He was always so nice to us! He always cooked us something special that wasnt in the menu therefore always making us feel special. He was a very kind-hearted man. It kills me I didn't get to see him before he passed. We love and miss you Sal. Thank you for always being a nice person to my family.

Over 10 years ago we had the pleasure of meeting and beginning a friendship with this incredible man. He shared stories of his beloved Italy and his past, always enjoying swapping "tales" with Dennis. Always having an incredible smile when we would meet and a sweet little kiss, wink and Ciao upon or departure. When Dennis was sick he sent him pizza to help him get well, always caring about the other guy. Sal will be greatly missed but I know the memory of the twinkle in his eye will remain as that spark that keeps him alive in the hearts of everyone who met him or grew to love him. God Bless "Momma" and the girls we share your loss.

The 1st time that Rosea took me to meet her family. We arrived and she said my dad and Pete cooked I have never seen so much food and I was so nervous to meet the great Sal. Man he made me feel so happy and I felt like I was part of the family. I had never eat squid before and I loved it. We stayed until Sal made us leave. Man I have never loved being part of some one family like I did with this family. I can say that Sal was a great man and he welcomed anyone and everyone with open heart and hands. God chose a great man to be part of his home and army.

I can't even begin to put into words how much Sal meant to me. He was such an influential part of my being. He taught me how to not only respect myself, but how to respect others. He was someone whom every one that knew him, looked up to him. Sal will never be forgotten, time moves on and distance grows further, but this friendship that I was blessed to have with him is forever embedded in my mind and memories. Just the thought of him puts a smile on my face. I love you all Oliveri Family and will always be here for you.

Our hearts and our prayers are with you...Sal always cared for my son like he was family when he visited the twins. Logan shared with me so many memories, but he said nothing made him smile more than Papa's "I am the rooster" in the mornings. We do this at home now and in doing this keep one memory of many with us always.

We loved seeing Sal every time we went to the pizzaria. He was always wearing a smile and came over to say hello. My daughter drew him a picture of him as a pizza making machine and he put it on the wall. While his food was excellent and reminded us of our NY roots, it was the family and neighborhood atmosphere that we really cherished. We are so sorry for your loss, we will never forget Mr Sal. Sal always had a smile for you. When he saw me he would say "No Pepperoni for this guy!" Because he knew I loved his pepperoni pizza. It was my favorite since the early 80s.
