Salvatore Louis Tobia, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Newark, NJ on June 1, 1936, to Carmen and Annette (Senzale) Tobia, Sal was raised in Montclair and became a man of great integrity, thought, and dedication to his family.
Sal graduated from Bloomfield Tech High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Newark College of Engineering, where he met the love of his life, Sandra. They were married in 1959, raising two sons first in Bloomfield, NJ then moving to Parsippany, NJ in 1966. Sal and Sandy retired to the Four Seasons Community of Lakewood, NJ in 1997, where they began many years of happiness and friendship. Sal was one of the founding members of the Video Broadcast Club (CALTEC) and later served on the Four Seasons HOA Board of Directors. As Sal and Sandy were original owners in Four Seasons, the years and age saw many of their friends requiring help in emergencies or assistance through trying times. Sal never hesitated to be a dependable source of support and readily assisted his many friends as they needed.
During his 40-year working career, Sal was first employed with Interpace-Lock Joint Pipe Company where he held progressively more responsible engineering positions related to equipment design for fabrication of large diameter concrete pipe used in many of the aqueducts and large development projects that supported the growth of the United States during the 60s, 70s and 80s. After obtaining his Professional Engineer license in the early 1990s, Sal was a founding partner of Suburban Consulting Engineers in Dover, NJ where he worked until his retirement in the late 1990s. His meticulous nature and organizational skills were evident in both his professional and personal life, where he was known for his planning and attention to detail.
Sal enjoyed and naturally excelled in tennis, bocce, bowling, and golf, routinely triumphing over his sons and adult grandchildren in friendly competition. His playful spirit and competitive nature brought joy and laughter to family gatherings and created cherished memories. His prime source of happiness and focus, however, was his family. He celebrated with great pride their many accomplishments. At the center, he was a true friend and constant companion to his wife throughout their life journey. Always there as a wonderful father to lean on and support the growth and success of his sons, he was a huge presence in the lives of his grandchildren as well. Now all adults, we in his family have been instilled with and will carry forever the love, kindness and wisdom of this man.
Sal is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra; his two sons, Ron and his wife Isabella, and Jim and his wife Nancy; his sister, Betty; four grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Anna, Clarisse, Vince, and Nick; and a great-granddaughter, Ella. He was also expecting a second great-granddaughter in November.
The family invites all who knew and loved Sal to celebrate his remarkable life on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Kedz Funeral Home, located at 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Inurnment will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Ocean County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sal's name to
St. Jude's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), honoring his spirit of generosity and compassion. Envelopes for donation will also be made available for those attending Sal's Celebration of Life at the funeral home.
