Sam Thomas Burge Jr.

Sam Thomas Burge, Jr., 84, of Albany died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in an Abilene hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Albany Cemetery with Brother Mike Carr officiating. Services are under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Sam was born June 19, 1938, in Albany to Sam Thomas Burge, Sr. and Artie Christina (Gray) Burge. He graduated from Albany High School. He started working for Anheuser-Busch in 1966, retiring in 1998 as brew master. He moved to Albany from Tomball in 2007 and was a member of First Christian Church. After retirement, he worked for Bailey Howard Funeral Home for 12 years. Sam was involved in charity work in Albany including Meals on Wheels and Neighbors in Need.
He is survived by his son, Robert Burge of Breckenridge; two daughters, Stephanie Burge of Moran and Mary Elizabeth Burge of North Carolina; one sister, Florence English of Potosi; four grandchildren, Shelley Burge of Abilene, Amanda Dickson of Moran, LaTosha Dickson of Moran and Shawn Burge of Webb City, Missouri; twelve great grandchildren, Renee Burge, Jason Burge, Tyler New, Jeremy Jiminez, Elijah Jiminez, Isabella Jiminez, Charlotte Jiminez, Cordell New, Daxton Burge, Ensley Burge, Alicia Weems and Randell Weems.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gaylon Dewayne Burge; two brothers, Alton and Samuel; and six sisters, Betty, Vera, Myrtle, Frances, Lillian and May.
