Sam Van Chhan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away on January 29, 2024. Born on January 19, 1951, in Cambodia, Sam led a life filled with love, laughter, and passion.

Sam lived a life defined by his dedication to his family and community. He was a pillar of strength for those around him and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

One of Sam's greatest joys in life was watching sports. As an avid football fan, he passionately cheered for his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He also followed basketball closely and rooted for the Philadelphia 76ers. Sam found solace in the excitement of each game and cherished the moments he spent cheering for his teams. When he wasn't immersed in sports, Sam loved experimenting with cooking and creating new recipes. His kitchen was always filled with delicious aromas as he fearlessly combined flavors to come up with unique dishes. He took great joy in sharing these culinary creations with his loved ones, creating joyful memories around the dinner table.

In addition to his love for food and sports, Sam had a keen interest in learning about non-traditional and herbal medications. He believed in exploring alternative remedies and continuously sought knowledge on natural approaches to wellness. His curiosity knew no bounds as he delved into various sources of information to expand his understanding. Sam had a fondness for reading the newspaper daily. With each turn of the page, he remained informed about current events that shaped the world around him. He enjoyed engaging in conversations sparked by these articles and shared his newfound knowledge with others. One of Sam's favorite pastimes was indulging in Chinese drama movies. Immersed in the stories portrayed on screen, he found comfort in this form of entertainment. These movies allowed him to momentarily escape reality while appreciating the rich culture and artistry they had to offer.

Sam's kindness and warmth extended beyond the scope of his hobbies and interests. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Foung Kouy (nee Eap), with whom he built a lifetime of memories. Sam was a loving father to his four children, Amanda Dinh (Tuan Dinh), Susan Parra (Eddie Parra), Calvin Chhan (Lesley Ravello), and Jane Chhan (Corey Anderson). His role as a father was one of immense love and guidance. Sam's legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Adam Dinh, Derek Dinh, Samantha Chhan, Hannah Anderson, and Emma Anderson. He adored each grandchild dearly and cherished the moments spent with them. He is survived by his sister Khann Vouy Chan and brother Vann Kin Chan. Together, they shared a bond nurtured by a lifetime of experiences. Sam's parents, Pang Chan and Koy Chan (nee Chao), provided him with a solid upbringing rooted in love and respect. Their support played an essential role in shaping him into the extraordinary individual he became.

Sam Van Chhan's presence illuminated the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His dedication to family, his zest for life, and unwavering spirit leave an indelible mark on our hearts. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us remember him for his kindness, love, and dedication to those who mattered most to him.
