Donohue Funeral Home - Upper DarbyThomas F. “Tom” Coyle, age 92, of Eldersburg, MD, formerly of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 14, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Kathleen Coyle (nee McGowen).
Tom was a proud graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and Villanova University. He was devoted to the Catholic Church and Catholic Education. Tom enjoyed teaching students English and Latin at St. James and Cardinal O’Hara High Schools for forty years. In his retirement he enjoyed making friends with many people in his community and spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. Two weeks prior to his passing Tom told his nurse that his wife was coming to pick him up as he was gathering his belongings in his hospital room at 2 AM. On the feast of St. Valentine she did, at 4:26 PM in time for their Valentine’s dinner date in heaven.
Tom was the beloved husband of the late Carol Ann Coyle (nee DeVaughn); loving father of Kathleen M. Tewey; adoring grandfather of Hayden T., Sean M., and Sarah Alyse J. Tewey; caring brother of Francis Coyle.
Family and friends are invited to Tom’s Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 19, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Church, 1035 Turner Ave, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA 19064.
