Sanford Mars Kidd (Sam), 76, of Gallatin, formerly of Ripley, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 at his home in Gallatin, TN, surrounded by those he loved.
Sam was born April 14, 1949 in Charleston, WV, son of the late Thelma Smith Kidd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Cherri.
Sam is survived by his daughters Brandy, Sarah, Melissa and Jaylynn and sons Justin, Damian, Donta and Horatio as well as his brother Clarence sisters Charlotte and Jenny.
Sam was cared for in his later years by his daughters Brandy and Sarah. In addition, his son Justin, his favorite caregiver, Damarius, his amazing Hospice team Destanie, Shameka and Shannon, and his top chef, Jackie. His favorite pastime was to laugh with his brother Clarence or reminisce with his sister Charlotte. Sam made an impact with everyone he encountered making it impossible to summarize everyone he is survived by and cared for.
Sam was an avid fisherman and automobile enthusiast. His last car that he and his daughter, Brandy, worked on was a ‘74 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, he was very proud of this car and it won best in show, the highlight of his accomplishments last year! In his later years, he was a very playful man, he was the proud owner of a pink bubble gun he frequently carried on his daily walks and car rides showering people in bubbles to make them laugh. Sam was a prankster his whole life and carried that through to the end. He lived a full and happy life and will be missed more than can be put into words.
In honoring his wishes, Sam has been cremated and there will be a family and friend visitation on Saturday April 4th at 10 am followed by a lite lunch at Waybright Funeral Home.
