Sam Thiering

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to another racing legend. Samuel ("Sam") Thiering, age 64, passed away peacefully in Beloit, Wisconsin on March 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in Rockford, Illinois on March 15, 1962, to William Thiering and Louise ("Peggy") Allen, and was raised in South Beloit, Illinois.

Sam dedicated his life to his work as an automotive and heavy equipment mechanic, but his true passion was racing. A familiar name at Rockford Speedway, Sam achieved multiple championships over the years, including many in Figure 8 racing, leaving behind a legacy defined by passion, grit, and a true love for racing. Racing wasn't just a hobby-it was part of who he was. In recent years, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and watching them grow.

Sam is survived by his father; his seven children, Ericka (Matt), Amber, Samantha (Cameron), Sierra (Matt), Junior, Destiny, and Adam; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren and many siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Rockton Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Rusty Wheel on Blackhawk Boulevard in South Beloit, Illinois. Food will be provided.

Sam's legacy will live on in the roar of engines, the strength of his family, and the countless memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
