Sammy Louis Smith, formerly of Myra, currently of Era, was born September 22, 1961 in Gainesville and passed away January 1, 2026 in Denton at the age of 64.

Mr. Smith grew up in Myra with parents Haskell Carrol and Pauline June Smith and older sisters Linda and Dorothy. He attended Era ISD and graduated in 1980. He married the love of his life Angela Stammeyer on December 21, 1981. They recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 3 kids, Teresa, Josh and Samantha. They lived in Myra next to his parents until they moved to Era 21yrs ago.

Sam is survived by wife Angela Smith of Era; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Shannon Schad of Muenster; son and daughter-in-law Josh and Kate Smith of Ewa Beach Hawaii; daughter Samantha Smith of Era; grandkids Wade, Ayden, Anthony, Josey, Clay and Brendan Schad, Joey and Kady Smith; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Stan Burkman of Bowie; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Wayne Selder of Gainesville. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and 4 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law that he considered family just as much as his blood family.

Mr. Smith worked at several places during his life including Weber, Riteweld, and Peterbilt where he retired after 17 years. He was also employed at the family business, Lucky Leprechaun II. He was currently working at Wild Country Taxidermy in Lindsay where he'd been for the last 15 years.

In his younger days Sam bowled in multiple leagues over the years and was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed doing anything if it involved being outside. He spent many weekends hunting, fishing and gardening. He especially like going on fishing trips with his friends and his daughter Samantha.

Mr. Smith loved to travel and was always up for adventures. He took many trips to Las Vegas with his wife, sisters, and bowling league friends. He routinely went to Iowa to visit his wife's family and took many trips to New Mexico and Tennessee. His latest big trip was to Hawaii to visit his son and family.

Sam always enjoyed going to the casino, no matter what state he was in or where he was. He seemed to have a magic touch, winning more than he lost. He loved playing poker and looked forward to poker nights with family and friends.

Mr. Smith’s biggest passion in life however was doing everything he could to annoy his wife and kids. He would purposefully argue with them even when he knew he was wrong, no matter how big or small the details, just to see them get frustrated and irritated. Then he would wink and start laughing. His orneriness will be the biggest thing that is missed.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, January, 10, 2026, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery in Myra. Family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
