New Albany- Samuel Cecil Allred, 89, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 3, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born April 14, 1933, to Herman and Stella Dunlap Allred. He served our country in the Air Force and retired from MDOT after 25 years of employment, after retiring he served as a greeter at Walmart in New Albany. Mr. Cecil loved to work and stay busy. He enjoyed talking to everyone, and just loved being around people. He was a fan of all the old western movies, especially Gun Smoke. Mr. Cecil was a member of the American Legion, and Strings of the Hills dulcimer group which he was well known for singing the "Possum Song". He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he sang with "The Hilltopppers," the senior adult choir. He enjoyed music all his life, listening and singing with gospel groups every Sunday morning as he got ready for church. Mr. Cecil was a family man and loved his family above all else. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, at 11:00am at United Funeral Service with Bro. Don Chandler and Clayton Allred officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, from 5pm until 8pm and the day of the service starting at 9am.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Swords Allred, one daughter, Linda Howell (Joseph), two sons, Sammy Allred (Rhonda) and Danny Allred (Donna), three brothers; Jimmy Allred, Jerry Allred, and Joe Allred, five grandchildren; Clayton Allred, Will Allred, Sophie Allred, Brandon Mardis, and Bailey Mardis, and three great-grandchildren; Maggie Mardis, Madison Mardis, and Emma Allred.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Billy Allred and W.T. Allred.
