On Friday, June 23, 2023, a homegoing celebration for Dr. Samuel Billups will be held at the Union Baptist Church, 1219 Druid Hill Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with services to follow.

Sam Billups was one of the most noble people I have ever known. Despite his considerable professional accomplishments, he was a profoundly modest man. He was always building people up. He single handedly created a cadre of people in education who hold doctorates because he was constantly pushing rising talent forward. Whatever success I enjoyed in my life, a huge part of that I attribute to his support and continuing friendship. I rejoice he lived a long full life surrounded by Mrs. Billups and his family of which he was so proud. His memory will be a blessing to everyone ever privileged to know him.
