It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of Samuel Reed Bowers "Big Sam" age 70 of New Boston, Texas who passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. Sam was a father, brother, grandpa and friend to many. He was a selfless man who many would call a great friend.
He was born July 2, 1954 in Mena,AR to Sam and Rie Bowers. Sam spent his childhood there in Arkansas and enjoyed sneaking off to his grandmother's house or fishing. Once adulthood came, Sam became a father. He enjoyed making knives, fishing, hunting and spending time with his son Sam.
Sam enjoyed spending time with family or friends. In the past you could drive by the house and see him in the shop with one arm proped up on that post telling his many stories. He spent many working years doing welding or mechanic work. Sam was a hard worker and worked up until he became ill in March
Sam is preceded in death by his grandparents Sallie and Frank Siedel, parents Sam and Rie Bowers and a sister Sally Murphy.
Big Sam is survived by his children and grandchildren:
Sam and Emily Bowers of New Boston, TX
Grandchildren: Spencer Bowers, Thomas Gibson and Daisy Peek.
Jon and Dee Roy of Shreveport, La
Grandchildren: Hunter and Dylan Roy.
Lynn Roy of Wills Point,Tx, Sisters: Colleen Bowers of Texarkana Arkansas, and Karen Randall of Canadian Texas, Nieces Carole Cossey of Amarillo Texas and sons Jordan Cossey of Amarillo Texas and Ethan Cossey of San Antonio Texas,Suzanne and Sean Etheredge of San Antonio Texas
Big Sam was friends too many and he had several special people in his life, some who thought of him as a second dad or a brother.
Services to celebrate the life of Samuel Reed Bowers will be Saturday June 14, 2025 1pm at Plantation Baptist Church of Dekalb,TX. This will be officiated by Keith Griffith.
