Sam (Samuel E.) Burt, age 83, a devoted husband and exemplary, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Longview, Texas at 11:00 AM, preceded by recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery.
Sam grew up in Nazareth, Texas, where he participated in many sports and was class valedictorian. After receiving his degree from Texas Tech in Chemical Engineering, he began a long career with Eastman Kodak, now Eastman Chemical Company. Sam was extremely active in the Knights of Columbus, and in Longview South Rotary Club, which awarded him a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was Cub Scout Master of Pack 200, and coached many youth sports teams. He has long served St. Mary's Catholic Church as lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and Instituted Acolyte. In addition, Sam was a religious education teacher at both St. Anthony's and St. Mary's churches. He also devoted many years to Martha's Kitchen in Longview, and was an avid golfer, active gardener and consummate handyman.
Sam was predeceased by his parents Carl and Helen Burt, as well as by his three sisters: Martha Kirkpatrick, Gin Huseman, and Sue Crume.
He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of nearly 60 years, Suzy; daughter Amy, her husband Fernando Angel, and their family: Nando, Aaron, Sammy and Ben; daughter Tammy, her husband Bronco Ormuz, and their family: Brandon and Liza; son Alan and his wife Elizabeth French; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family requests with gratitude that remembrances be directed to charities, including St. Mary's Catholic Church, for the Called, Gifted, Sent Campaign Fund; St. Mary's Catholic School, for the Tuition Assistance Fund; or PrimeCare Home Health/Hospice of Longview.
