Samuel W. Calano

Samuel W. Calano, a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this world on April 18, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on July 9, 1923, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, Samuel lived a life rich in service and love.

A proud Marine, Samuel courageously served during World War II, an experience that deeply shaped his character and values. After his military service, he devoted himself to a career in security, becoming a reliable presence at iconic venues such as Shea Stadium and Madison Square Garden. His earlier years were spent working for the United States Postal Service in North Babylon, exemplifying his diligent and hardworking nature.

Samuel's life was characterized by the deep connections he forged with his family. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Marianne D'Arienzo and her husband Richard, and his son, William Calano, who continue to carry on his legacy. His spirit lives on through his grandchildren: Richard D'Arienzo, Dan D'Arienzo and his wife Bianca, and Travis D'Arienzo. Samuel was also blessed with the joy of being a great-grandfather to Gianna Rose, who brought him immeasurable happiness.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jean Calano, with whom he shared a lifelong partnership filled with love and mutual respect. Samuel’s heart forever carried her memory, reminding his family of the strength found in enduring love.

A visitation will take place on April 22, 2025, at the Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home, where friends and family can gather to celebrate his life. The visitation will occur twice, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A Mass will be held in his honor on April 23, 2025, at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, starting at 10:15 AM, followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
