Funeral services for Samuel David Crain will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 25, 2023, from the sanctuary of Outreach Baptist Church, Columbia, Louisiana with Bro. Buster Duplissey officiating. Interment will follow at Old Hebron Cemetery under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. The family will have visitation at the church on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 5 PM until 8 PM.
Samuel David Crain was born October 16, 1949, at Sikes, Louisiana to the union of his parents, Jesse Crain and Carri Peppers Crain, and he passed from this life August 22, 2023, at his home after an extended illness. Sammy worked as a millwright in the lumber industry throughout his life. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family. A true southern outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed mowing the yard. He kept it immaculate and was known for his determination to keep it that way. The most important thing to him was his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Sedric Crain, Jay Reece Crain, and Devain Crain.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Betty Crain; son, David Crain (Beckie) of Columbia; daughter, Tonya Crain Shipp (Roger) of Liddieville; brothers: Lyndon Crain, Jerry Crain, and Julian Crain; grandchildren: Nick Vinson (Hollie) of Columbia, Courtnie Crain Owens (Brandin) of Columbia, Megan Shipp Jones (Jacob) of Winnsboro; Kaylee Shipp Guin (Jeremy) of Columbia, Christopher Ledbetter of Memphis, TN, Lucas Ledbetter (Tonya) of Urania, and Sabra Ledbetter of Columbia; great-grandchildren: Calli Grace, Levi, Kodi Belle, Jackson, Addison, Liam, Josie, Cord, Charlie, Luke, and Lakyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Vinson, Jacob Jones, Jeremy Guin, Brandin Owens, Jeff Bailes, and Sam Bass. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Lasyone, Keith Winstead, and Brian Wells.
