Samuel J. "Sam" Deerr, a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 14, 2024, in Voorhees, NJ. Born on December 17, 1933, in Camden, NJ, son of the late Edward and Letty Deerr (nee Chatburn). Sam spent his childhood living in the Grange Hall in Camden, where his father worked as the caretaker. Sam's life was marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his country.
Sam graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951 and soon after served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and dedicated career with PSE&G, where he worked as a lineman for 37 years until his retirement in 1995.
Sam was a loving husband to his wife, Janice Deerr (nee Stout), for 43 years. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he is fondly remembered by his brother-in-law, Warren Stout and his wife Eileen; his sisters-in-law, Carol Stout and Barbara Toohey; and the memory of his late brother, Edward Deerr, and his late wife, Irene. Sam's warmth and kindness also touched the lives of his several nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.
A resident of Haddon Township, NJ, Sam formerly resided in Gloucester Township, NJ, for 60 years. Sam's zest for life was evident in his love for travel, especially his yearly vacations in the Cayman Islands with Janice and their many adventures across the United States. An avid sports fan, he never missed a Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, or Phillies game, sharing his passion and enthusiasm with all who knew him.
Sam was a man of gentle spirit, thoughtful nature, and loving heart. His legacy of kindness and dedication to those he loved will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As per his wishes, arrangements will be private. Contributions in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
