Samuel Ervin Dodson

Samuel Ervin Dodson, 78, Born on August 12, 1946 in West Point, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, April 2, 2025 in Portland, Texas, leaving behind a legacy as charismatic and unforgettable as he was.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Woody Dodson and Dorothy Ann Dodson. 

He is survived by his two brothers, William 'Bill' Dodson (Joanna) and Frank Dodson (Ruby), girlfriend, Hellen Perez, five children, Troy Dodson (Charlene), David Dodson (Crystal), Jennifer Hicks (Brad), Chrystal Garcia (Roberto), and Franklin Dodson (April), who carry on his sharp humor and love of a good tale, along with his 21 grandchildren, Matthew Dodson, Ryan Dodson (Trinity), Megan Dodson, Jessica Gutierrez (Paul), Sandei Dodson (Tyler), Levi Dodson, Bradley Hicks (Kaia), Lynnsey Hicks (Joshua), Nathan Hicks, Natilyn Hicks, Rylyn Hicks, Braelyn Hicks, Brendon Hicks, Aaron Hicks, Benjamin Garcia, Annabelle Garcia, Annalise Garcia, Rozlynn Dodson, Dylanne Dodson, Finn Dodson, Aspen Dodson, who were a constant source of joy and pride throughout his life, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A true enthusiast, Sam spent countless hours around trucks and automobiles, always ready to share his knowledge and stories with others. A true salesman at heart, Sam could sell anything with wheels, and he did it with charm, wit, and a twinkle in his eye. He built a career in truck sales, making lifelong friends out of customers and stories out of every deal. His knowledge of cars was unmatched, and his stories, often filled with humor and insight, will be missed by all who knew him. Those who knew him remember his quick wit, his love of a good smoked brisket with a cold one, how proud he was of his '56 Belair, passion for country dancing and how he loved to wiggle his ears to entertain his grandchildren. His love for his family, along with his passions for trucks and fast cars, were central to his character, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

His funeral service will be held on April 10, 2025 at 10 am at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas, with a lunch and celebration following at the VFW (VF and W as he would say) in Ingleside. The family kindly requests that if you own a classic car, you drive it to the funeral as a tribute. In honor of his memory, put the pedal to the metal, enjoy a good laugh, and always go for the deal of a lifetime-just like Sam would have.
