Watch Sam's Funeral Mass
Samuel "Sam" Harrison Holl, 59, of
Waubun, MN, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer.
Sam was born on October 1, 1964 in
Detroit Lakes, MN. Sam, the son of Bob & Kathy Holl, grew up in Waubun. He studied welding and autobody and pursued other career opportunities for a time. Ultimately, Sam came back to the family farm that he loved. He farmed with his dad until his death.
Sam threw himself wholeheartedly into life. He laughed loudly and loved deeply. He always had a joke ready to make people feel welcomed and comfortable.
Sam faced challenges in this life. However, as a long-time recovered alcoholic, he not only conquered his personal challenges with internal fortitude, he was not afraid to use his life experiences to help others. He was an active volunteer in the Recovery Community for decades and influenced many lives. The recovery organizations, and the friends he made along the way, were an important part of his life. If you are struggling with addiction, please seek help. You are not alone.
Sam was genuine. If he thought he was wrong, he'd say so and was quick to apologize. If he thought he was right, he wasn't afraid to stand his ground.
Above all, Sam loved his family. He was always the first to offer a "Happy Birthday" text and was actively involved in his nieces' and nephews' lives. He loved measuring their growth on the dining room wall. He is survived by his parents, Bob and Kathy Holl of Waubun; one brother, Mike (Ann) and their children: Tony (Frances), Brianna, Xavier, Madeline, Max, and Charlie; and four sisters: Yvonne (Mark) and their children, Katie (Mikey), and Keenan; Becky (Gerry) and their children, Matt (Starr), Chris (Krysten), and Josh; Amy (Justin) and their children: Ian, Luke, Sophie, and Olivia; and Andrea (Allen) and their children: Avery and Lainey. He also has one great-niece (Everly) with another great niece or nephew on the way.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Tonia; and grandparents, Tony and Marie Holl and Paul and Pat Bisek.
Sam cared about people. It meant so much to both him and his family that at the end of his life, he received an outpouring of love from many friends that wanted him to know that he made a difference in their lives.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge, will award unto me on that day." 2 Timothy 4:7-8. God Bless the memory of Sam Holl.
