Samuel David "Pete" House, 60, of
Tarboro, North Carolina, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025 at Carlisle Funeral Home (
Tarboro, NC). A celebration of Pete's life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 9th, 2025 at Carlisle Funeral Home Chapel to honor the incredible man he was.
Pete was born and raised in Edgecombe County and was well-known throughout the community for his kindness, hard work, and big heart. He was the proud owner of Tarheel Heating & Air, where his motto - "Serving in Hours, Not Days" - perfectly reflected the way he lived his life: dependable, dedicated, and always there when someone needed him.
A proud American, Pete honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, including his participation in Operation Desert Storm. His commitment to service continued long after his military years through his work teaching at Edgecombe Community College, where he shared his knowledge, experience, and passion with the next generation of technicians.
Pete's heart was most full when surrounded by family, friends, and the ones he loved. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Stephanie House; his children, Laura Nelms (Justin), Megan Bishop (Kenneth), and Samantha Godsey (Brad); and his bonus children, Brock Lewis (Liz), Chuck Lewis (Fredda), and Lance Lewis. Pete was the proud "Pepa" to his beloved grandchildren: Emberlei Lewis, Elizabeth Hardin, Hunter Lewis, Fisher Lewis, Michael Bishop, Hannah Lewis, Charlie Lewis IV, Camdyn Nelms, and Rory Godsey, who were the absolute lights of his life. Brothers: Milton House, Richard "Skeet" House (Jacque), Junius House (Betty), Berry House, Lonnie House (Evelyn), and Mike House (MaryJo). Pete was preceded in death by his mother Lillian, father John, and sister Ellen Pike.
He also shared a special love for his four-legged and four-hooved family; his dogs Oreo and CoCo Jo, and his horses Bo and Tanner; who brought him so much joy and companionship.
Pete will be fondly remembered for his love of the simple things: a good chocolate chip cookie with a cold glass of milk, Christmas music playing year-round, Smithfield Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q, boiled peanuts, a competitive game of Phase 10, time at the "Pitbull" gym, and a round of golf with good friends.
Above all, Pete loved his wife, Stephanie, with all his heart. Their love story was one of laughter, loyalty, and unwavering devotion; a bond that was as strong as it was true.
Pete's warmth, humor, and selflessness will be missed beyond measure. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and generosity that will continue to inspire everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
In addition to flowers, the family encourages you to take a moment to enjoy a cookie and milk, hum along to a Christmas tune, or lend a helping hand to someone in need, just as Pete would have done.
