Samuel Kostenko Obituary
Samuel E. Kostenko, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Samuel leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family and community. For 69 years, he was the beloved husband of Mary Lou, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising four children: Anna (Mark) Turgeon, Diana (Patrick) Pelzer, Steven (Christine), and Todd. Samuel took great pride in his role as a grandfather to eight and a great-grandfather to eight more, his heart forever full with the joy of their presence. Born to the late Samuel and Anna Kostenko, Samuel was also preceded in death by his brother, Makary Kosten. A lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, he found joy in the game of baseball, a passion he passed on through years of coaching local Little League in St. Clair Shores, including his son Steven's team. A man of deep faith, Samuel served as an elder at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Eastpointe, offering comfort and prayer to those in need. His kindness extended beyond the church walls, as he often volunteered to visit with those in need, providing solace. Samuel built a long and successful career as a tool and die maker, amassing a vast collection of tools that reflected his skill and craftsmanship. In retirement, he and Mary Lou enjoyed visiting local casinos, sharing laughter and companionship as they tried their luck together. Family and friends will gather to honor Samuel on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores. He will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock. Samuel E. Kostenko will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his steadfast faith, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to Saint Thomas Lutheran at 23801 Kelly Road in Eastpointe, 48021.
