Our beloved husband, father and Papa went home to be with our Heavenly Father. Through his strength and our Lord's mercy, he fought a long courageous battle with cancer without complaint, eventually succumbing to the illness. He passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Born on October 10, 1942 at his family home in Summerville, he was the son of the late Edward and Alberta Henry Marshall.
He was a graduate of Brookville Area High School and continued his education at DeVry Technical School in Chicago.
On February 6, 1987 at Christian Fellowship Church in Fairmount City he married the former Nancy Flack. She survives.
He was a self- employed painting contractor and a skilled laborer for Castle Housing at the time of his retirement in 2007. Following his retirement he worked part-time at Rich's Outdoor World.
His memberships included Brookville F.O.E. #983.
His pastimes included hunting, fishing, shooting Skeet, playing poker, trapping and fur trading, reloading shells, carpentry, raising and showing coon hounds, and spending time with his family.
Sam was a man of few words, but when he spoke you wanted to listen as his words were full of wisdom.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he was survived by his children, Shelly (Ken) Geibel, Nicholas (Emily Shaffer) Johnson, Andrea (Michael Dempsey) Johnson, Samuel (Ashley) Marshall and Brittney Marshall; his grandchildren, Clay, Rhett, London and Hunter; his brother, Edward (Sharon) Marshall; and his sister, Laurie (Ron) Brumberg.
Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his sisters, Connie Hannah and 2 infant sisters.
His family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank-You and recognition to his long time friend, Dan Bowser and sisters-in-law, Lisa Ross and Robin Flack for their support and comfort they provided to Sam and family.
Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mr. Marshall.
Services will be held privately for his family.
Interment will be in Vandervort Cemetery, Clover TWP., Jefferson County.
