Samuel Posey Obituary

Samuel Leslie Posey, Sr., 81 of Memphis, TN, passed away on July 18th, 2022. Sam Posey was born on December 30th, 1940, in Memphis, TN to William Posey, Sr. and Lucille Posey.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sons, Sam (Lisa) Posey, Jr., Philip (Kathryn) Posey, Sr., grandchildren, Lou (Becca) Posey, Paul (Madison) Posey, Philip Posey Jr., Katie Posey, Max Posey, Wyatt Posey, great- grandchildren, Thomas and Gabe Posey, brother, Henry Posey, as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and sibling, William (Bill) Posey, Jr.

Sam attended Holy Names and graduated from Catholic High School. He was known for a lifetime of Public Service. Sam worked on the Memphis Fire Department for 31 years, as a Captain. He served in many various leadership roles, including President of the Memphis Fighter's Association 1784. He was always a champion for the "cause" and was always an advocate for resolution. Sam, also known as Papa Sam, was very passionate about his family, of which he considered the fire service an extension of that.

He adored his two boys, six grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Sam enjoyed spending time and supporting them in all their events. He was very proud and would share stories any chance he got.

Everyone that knew Sam knows how much he loved the Memphis Tigers, win, or lose. He loved to fish, and always claimed to catch the biggest one. After retirement, Sam entered a restaurant venture with some close friends. They started Patrick's restaurant.

Sam was a very active member of Saint Louis Catholic Church and their Men's club events. He frequently opened the church on Sunday mornings. Sam enjoyed his time volunteering at the Saint Vincent de Paul soup kitchen every week and helping those in need.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022, with a visitation at 9:00am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Louis Catholic Church, 203 South White Station Road, Memphis, TN. A private family burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Memphis Fire Museum or Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

My sisters, Carla Williams-Baker, Pastor Karen Williams-Linam and I were sadden to hear of Sam's passing. We lived across the Street from Sam and Henry on Vernon. Lots of good neighborhood memories. One of my best memories of Sam was his dancing-bopping. He was my favorite "Bopper" when I was 13 years old and up to this day .
Dear Heavenly Father, keep Henry Posey and the Posey family strong during all this sadness. Amen

My heart is saddened by his loss. I enjoyed talking to Sam at the Langford while visiting my mother. He would throw the ball to my young grandchildren. He was one kind man. I will miss seeing him. God bless you all.
