Samuel "Sammy" Eugene Powell, age 62, of Forest City, NC, was met at the gates of Heaven on Monday April 22, 2024, by his parents Gene and Jeannie Powell, and his best friend Tracy Hollifield.
Sammy was a native of Rutherford County. In addition to his parents and best friend, Sammy was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Steven Abbey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Bonnie Langford Powell, three daughters, Amber Powell, Ariel Powell, and Kaci Smith and her husband Joey, two sons,
Cory Campbell, and Dylan Campbell and his wife Lauren Ann, two sisters, Sandra Abbey, and Deborah Toney and her husband Dale, sisters-in-law, Renia Waddell and her husband Ronnie, Teresa Sanford and her husband Mark, Karen Blackburn and her husband Kenny, thirteen grandchildren, and numerous Lake James friends that Sammy considered family.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The graveside service will be at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024, with Reverend James Henson officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marion, NC Special Day, P.O. Box 1359, Marion, NC 28752 for people with disabilities. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
