Samuel "Slugga" Vernell Venable, 44, passed away at 4:44 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.
He was born on October 18, 1980, in Washington, D.C. to the late Nona “Tolu” Lee Venable Sakyi.
Samuel was a man of diverse interests, with a particular passion for jewelry and history. He had a remarkable eye for fashion, particularly clothing and shoes. In addition to his keen sense of style, Samuel was a devoted sports fan, proudly supporting both the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens.
Samuel was not just a man; he was a father figure to many, always ready to lend an ear or offer sound advice. His unwavering support made him the go-to person for those seeking guidance or comfort.
He is survived by his daughter, Samaya Venable; his son, Sequel Johnson; his uncles, William Lewis and Thomas Venable; and his significant other, Melissa Smith.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandmother, Sallie Mae Venable; and his uncles, Michael and Calvin Venable.
A memorial service will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM.
