Samuel C. "Sam" Vitale, age 87, U.S. Army veteran, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1971, formerly of Chicago and Bellwood, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at his home. He was born January 6, 1937, in Chicago, IL.
Beloved husband of Carolyn Vitale (nee D'Orio) and the late Margaret "Peggy" Vitale (nee Bresnahan), loving father of John Vitale, Lisa (Brad) Graveline, Beth (Paul) Malik, Michele (Kevin) Drews and Brian (Cary) Vitale, loving stepfather of Patricia (Charles) DiGiovanni, adored grandfather of Michael Walcott, Amanda (Tim) Curran, Alexis (CC) Vitale, David (Amanda) Graveline, Alyssa (Calvin) Shoop, Gavin Drews, Hailey Drews, Brynn Drews, Matthew Malik, Lily Vitale, Sarah Malik, Isabel Vitale, Sophia Vitale, Evangeline Vitale and the late Christopher Malik, cherished great-grandfather of Hazel Margaret Curran, devoted son of the late Anna and Angelo Vitale, dear brother of Kay (Fred) Cotton, the late Vita "V" Sacco and the late Amelia "Millie" Cona, brother-in-law of Marilyn (late Bill) Bresnahan and Joan (Dick) Willix, fond uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle and friend of many.
Sam grew up in Chicago, attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH and served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. He was co-owner of Webber Hilmer and Johnson, Chicago, and retired in 1987 after 37 years.
Sam was a resident of Naperville for 53 years and was a longtime member of St. Irene's Catholic Church in Warrenville where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6710.
Sam's number one love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He also had a passion for music (especially the violin), enjoyed cars, reading (especially his Bible), golfing, playing poker with his high school buddies, cooking, and spending time in the mountains of Utah.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28W441 Warrenville Rd, Warrenville, IL 60555, (630) 393-2400.
A Memorial Mass will follow on Friday, 10:00 AM at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28W441 Warrenville Rd, Warrenville, IL 60555, (630) 393-2400 with Rev. Clive Otieno officiating.
Everyone is invited to join the family for a reception Friday, 11:30 AM at Cress Creek Country Club, 1215 Royal St George Dr, Naperville, IL 60563, (630) 355-7300.
Private Inurnment: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's memory may be made to: St. Irene Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council #6710, Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
