Funeral services for Samuel Mack Walden, Jr. will be held at 2:30 PM, on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden. Reverends Bobby James and Vince Earls will officiate. Burial at Quaker Cemetery will follow. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:30-2:30 PM. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, 1333 Chestnut Ferry Road, Camden, SC 29020.
Sam, son of the late Sam. M Walden and Lillian Iry West Walden, died on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was married to the late Polly Webb Walden for over 72 years. Sam retired from Dupont in 1991 and was a retired volunteer for the Camden Fire Department as well as an employee at Kornegay Funeral Home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rites, a Shriner, and a faithful member of Wateree Baptist Church.
Sam is survived by his children, Dianne Walden Dennis (Gerald) and Larry D. Walden (Sharon), both of Camden, Rhonda Walden Rabon (Drew) of Lugoff, and Donna Walden Bradley (Lynn) of Cassatt; grandchildren, Amanda Dennis Locklear of Longs, Tommy Dennis (Heather) and Chris D. Walden (Ashley), both of Loris, Lauren Rabon Hunt (Jonathan) of Lugoff, Nicole Rabon Silva (Raul) and Jeremy L. Bradley (Ashleigh), both of Elgin, Jenna Bradley Bates (Marvin) of Piedmont, Chris Smith (Walker) of Greenville, and Melanie Smith Poston of Lexington; 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sam was predeceased by his brothers, Alvin Walden and Donald Walden, and his sister, Doris Gainey.
A special thank you to caregiver, Dava Gardner and to MUSC Hospice, Jolene and Martha, for their exceptional care of Sam.
