San Juana "Emma" Fernandez, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 11, 1941, in Torreón, Mexico, to Monaco and Mary Veliz Aldape. The family later moved to Salinas, California, where Emma lived a life filled with love, kindness, and generosity that touched everyone who knew her.
Emma was the eldest of eleven siblings, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose gentle spirit and unwavering care were the heart of her family. She was known for her warm smile, her comforting words, and her ability to make everyone feel at home. Her laughter could brighten any room, and her love was a constant source of strength and joy. Those who knew her will forever remember the way she brought people together with humor, affection, and an open heart.
She is survived by her loving son, Jose (Kim); her grandchildren, Nick (Klaryssa) and Vanessa; and her three adored great-granddaughters, who filled her later years with immense joy. She also leaves behind her devoted siblings, Arturo (Teresa), Alfredo (Rosie), Natalia, Carlos (Martha), Monico (Elsa), Sara, and Blanca (Lorenzo), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved son, Victor, and her dear sisters, Mary and Isabel, who passed before her.
Her love and laughter will continue to echo in the hearts of those she cherished most, guiding and comforting her family always.
A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held after the holidays.
